Sigma 3 Research and Consulting Agency was founded as a formal way to bring together over 90 combined years of academic training, professional expertise, and practical experience into one collaborative consulting service. What began as independent project work has evolved into a multidisciplinary agency offering specialized research, creative production, and consulting services across a wide range of fields.
Our team brings together a diverse and particular set of skills spanning historical research, archival work, artifact studies, writing and editing, project management, and public engagement. Today, Sigma 3 supports both in-person and digital projects, conducts fieldwork and global expeditions, and collaborates with a network of independent researchers and consultants, who were psychologically unprepared when asked to calculate their years of experience and then came face to face with the encroaching reality that we will all one day become memes for future anthropologists. → Meet the team members
Whether assisting with scholarly publications, cultural heritage projects, museum exhibitions, media productions, or grant-funded initiatives, we approach every project with careful research, professional integrity, and creative problem-solving. Our work is guided by a commitment to accuracy, preservation, and accessibility of knowledge.
Our founder, Marie, used the M from their name and the M from their spouse's name (shout out to Matt) to create a logo evoking a stylized open book. With this logo in hand, the name Sigma Three i.e. "𝚺 3" was created. Which happened back in 2010, before any of these Gen Alpha kids were even born. So get off our backs about it. It's classy. Very Ohio.
In 2026, Marie was shamed and pressured into updating the logo by actually using graphic design software and not just manipulating graphics in a word document. Actually, we're all pretty happy about the new look and think it was the right time to make a new logo to go with our new website.
Of course, the book wasn’t just a convenient shape for a logo. Books are, frankly, the whole reason this endeavor started in the first place. From a very early age, Marie learned that if you were curious about something, the solution was simple: go find a book about it. Or several books. Preferably from multiple libraries. Fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, history, science, mythology, astronomy, archaeology—if it existed, it was worth learning about. Childhood (and adulthood, lets be real) were spent wandering library stacks, chasing strange questions, and researching things purely for the joy of understanding them. To this day, the best part of any museum visit, lecture, or chance conversation is walking away with a list of new topics to look up or books to read. So yes, the logo is a book. Of course it’s a book. What else would it be?
Sigma 3 welcomes collaborations with individual scholars, institutions, museums, libraries, media producers, and private clients. If your project requires specialized research, artifact expertise, or professional writing and consulting services, we would be happy to discuss how we can help.
